Constanta is worth a visit. It is pleasant to walk from the train station, through the center, the old town and ending up at the casino promenade. The old town is in contrast with most of the other Romanian cities. it has a mediterranean/middle eastern feel to it. attractions include: the Roman mosaic behind the history museum, supposed to have been the largest in Europe after the ones in Italy, ruins of the Roman harbour, ruins of streets and houses near the orthodox church, an 18th c mosque, the history museum, the italian catholic church, the greek orthodox church, the casino, etc.

The city of Mangalia, south of Constanta, just north of Vama Veche (border crossing between Bulgaria and Romania)(ancient greek city of Callatis) has also a few attractions: the 16th c mosque, ancient roman and greek ruins.

Do not miss what is one of the best ancient site in Romania, the ancient greek city of Histria/Istriopolis, near the village of Istria.

Also do not miss the paleo-christian rock church in Basarabi (just outside Constanta), the ruins of the genovese citadel of Enisala, which offers great vistas of the area (at the edge of the Danube Delta), the paleo-christian basilica (one of the largest in Europe) with a tomb of 4 christian martyrs and a pretty little medieval orthodox church in the village of Niculitel, two monasteries nearby (Cocos, Vovidenia), ruins of the ancient citadels in the region (Argamum (village of Jurilovca), Dinogetia (Garvan), Arubium (Macin), Noviodunum (Isaccea), Carsium (Harsova) Adamclisi, etc.).

Dobrogea is the region of Romania located between the Danube and the Black sea. it is a unique and forgotten region, with dry climate, flat in the south, hilly in the central and northern part, with a rich ancient history, with many hidden villages housing orthodox churches and mosques. the Danube flows into the Black sea forming the Danube delta in N Dobrogea.

Constanta is the most important transportation hub in the region. from the train station you can take trains to everywhere in the country, as well as local and regional buses.
