Boden document
Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze on Monday criticized Abkhazian separatists for refusing to discuss a peace proposal put forward by a United Nations envoy.

The plan, known as the Boden document after envoy Dieter Boden, would have given the Black Sea province of Abkhazia wide autonomy, while declaring it an inalienable part of Georgia.

Shevardnadze, speaking Monday in his weekly radio address, said it could have become "the basis of a historic compromise."

"Lack of respect"
Shevardnadze said the Abkhazian side's refusal to even discuss the Boden plan showed a lack of respect for the United Nations.

Meanwhile, Shevardnadze also reiterated that he could drop his objections to a rail link between Russia's Black Sea port of Sochi and the Abkhaz capital Sukhumi, if its opening was linked with the return of hundreds of thousands of Georgian refugees.
