5 killed, 6 missing
A Russian freighter sank off Turkey"s Black Sea coast Monday, killing at least five people, the Anatolia news agency reported.

Anatolia said three of the Strelets" 14 crew members were rescued. Turkey"s coast guard and several other ships were searching for the remaining six crew members.

Bad weather
An official from the Moscow river fleet told Russia"s TVS television that preliminary indications were that the ship split in two under the force of the heavy surf.

Anatolia said the 5,085-ton (3,390-metric ton) ship, which was not carrying any cargo, began leaking water amid harsh winter weather.

Winter storms also forced a helicopter and a plane that had been dispatched as part of rescue efforts to turn back, the agency said.

Heading for Kherson
The 132-meter (435-foot) ship, which had departed from a Turkish port, sank around 65 miles (40 kilometers) off the shore of Turkey"s Zonguldak region, Anatolia said. The ship had been headed for Ukraine"s port of Kherson, Anatolia said.
