Renovating and upgrading
Early next year, Bulgaria will reportedly launch procedures to locate candidates for concessions to renovate and upgrade its two Black Sea airports.

Investment
The Balkan state's reformist government, which took over in July 2001, is planning to grant concessions of up to 35 years for its Black Sea airports at Varna and Bourgas. The concessions are intended to raise investment and upgrade ageing infrastructure.

The concessions are expected to include the construction of new passenger terminals, upgrading runways and expanding parking areas, however the exact terms have not yet been revealed.

Lots of foreign interest
According to Bulgaria's Transport Minister, 24 foreign companies and consortiums have shown an interest in the two airports. The concession procedure is scheduled to be completed in May, reported Reuters.
