Five months salary A crew of Philippine and Ukrainian sailors are on strike in the Black Sea port of Ilyichivsk demanding five months" back wages from their ship"s owner, an official said Wednesday.
The crew of the Ocean Pacific-1 freighter, which is owned by Aker Shipping of Panama, have appealed to Ukraine"s Marine Transport Union for assistance, said Vadym Moshchenko, the union"s chief executive in Odessa. The ship is in Ilyichivsk for repairs, he said.
Started 4 weeks ago The strike began Oct. 22, when the full crew staff came to the union"s office in Odessa and asked that the owner be forced to pay back wages totaling tens of thousands of dollars, according to Moshchchenko.
